Preparation of graphene oxide/SiO2 modified waterborne polyurethane and study on its properties

Abstract: SiO2-GO/WPUA composite emulsion is prepared by adding self-made SiO2-GO into waterborne polyurethane-acrylate emulsion (WPUA) during self-emulsification process.The structure and performance of SiO2-GO/WPUA composite emulsion,and its film are studied.There is interaction between active groups of GO and SiO2 surface.Aggregation of GO is well obstructed by SiO2.With the increasing addition amount of SiO2-GO,the particle size of SiO2-GO/WPUA composite emulsion increases gradually.It is found from thermal gravimetric analysis (TG) and tensile testing for SiO2-GO/WPUA films that both the mechanical properties and heat resistance of films can be improved by SiO2-GO hybrid filler.The tensile strength of the composite film reaches 50.14 MPa when the content of SiO2-GO is 0.7%.TG determination results indicate that thermal decomposition temperature of SiO2-GO/WPUA increases by 28℃ and 46℃ when the thermal weight loss is 30% and 50%,respectively.The SiO2-GO/WPUA films show better heat resistance than WPUA films.
