Abstract: In terms of the separation for multiple-stage consecutive reversible reactions,this paper evaluates systematically the effectiveness and feasibility of the reactive distillation column with multiple reactive sections (RDC-MRS).Taking two-step consecutive reversible reactions to synthesize diethyl carbonate and three-step consecutive reversible reactions to synthesize silane as two examples,the comparison and analysis of the reactive distillation columns with a single reactive section (RDC-SRS) and RDC-MRS are performed with respect to steady state performance and dynamic operation.The obtained results show that the application of multiple reactive sections can help to coordinate the correlations between multiple-step reactions and between reaction operation and separation operation involved,leading consequently to significant improvement in process design,dynamics and operation.It is,therefore,reasonable to consider that the arrangement of multiple reactive sections is an effective and feasible strategy for process intensification in the case of the separation of multiple-stage consecutive reversible reactions.
