This study was conducted using three functional strains,Kl-TY2,Kl-TY6,and Kl-TY8,which were isolated from activated sludge collected from a coking plant.Based on molecular biological identification, all three strains belong to the genus Klebsiella.Taking into account functional annotation information from closely related strains,it is hypothesized that the three strains may exhibit metabolic complementarity during the degradation of phenol and indole. The results of a 23full-factorial design showed that the consortium Kl-TY2+Kl-TY6+Kl-TY8 achieved degradation rates of both phenol and indole exceeding 90% within 72 h,and its overall degradation performance was superior to those of single-strain and dual-strain systems.Furthermore,single-factor experiments and response surface methodology were employed to optimize the degradation conditions, and temperature,pH,and the initial phenol concentration were identified as the primary influencing factors. The predicted optimal conditions were approximately 31.7℃,pH 7.03,and an initial phenol concentration of 507.4 mg/L;under these conditions, the experimentally observed phenol degradation rate reached 91.78%.These results indicate that the synthetic microbial consortium Kl-TY2+Kl-TY6+Kl-TY8 possesses strong synergistic capabilities for phenol-indole co-degradation,providing a reference for optimizing biological treatment processes for coking wastewater.
