经过30多年的快速发展，中国已成为世界石化产业大国，但产业层次不高，通用大宗产品产能过剩严重。在推动我国石化产业由大转强的发展过程中，中国石化产业所面临的内外部环境、机遇和挑战均在不断变化，发展趋势出现了一些新的特点，即自主创新成为企业发展的重要支撑，在一些细分行业领域出现了世界领先的企业，产业结构调整以发展高端的、短缺的化工产品为突破目标，民营石化企业和国际石化巨头加大了在我国市场的投资力度。与国际石化巨头在国际和国内两个市场的竞争中，我国的石化产业也将逐步实现由大做强，届时也会有更多的中国化工企业进入世界化工50强阵营。
