The latest research progress in refining spent lubricating oils through adsorption is reviewed and the refining mechanism is introduced. It is concluded that the adsorption process includes cation exchange,π complex adsorption,acid-base neutralization,ion-dipole interaction, etc. The effects of these mechanisms produce great significance to the preparation of a good multi-functional adsorbent. Finally, the future research focus is forecasted and the feasibility of using modified hydrotalcite to treat spent lubricating oil is expected.
