This paper summarizes by category the methods using tetraethoxysilane as silicon source to prepare silica microspheres and concerning influence factors in the past 15 years.Furthermore,the summary of some examples followed by different methods are listed.The applications of the silica microspheres-based functionalized packings in separation analysis of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) are also summarized.Finally,the development trends of preparation and applications of high purity silica microspheres are proposed.
