Abstract: China's sugar production processes and regional distribution of sugar manufacturers are summarized.Present situation of discharge of wastewater pollutants from the sugar-making industry is introduced and analyzed. The results show that except total phosphorus, the emission concentrations of other wastewater pollutants from the sugar-making industry are far lower than the limit values in China's currently promulgated discharge standard of water pollutants for sugar-making industry (GB 21909-2008).For China's sugar-making industry,it is suggested that the management and control by the central and local governments shall be strengthened further, and other agro-food processing industries can learn from the environmental management experiences of the sugar industry.
