Study on polymerization process of polystyrene microspheres with high crosslinking degree

Abstract: Using divinylbenzene (DVB) as crosslinking agent,high crosslinking polystyrene (PS) microspheres with a main particle size ranging from 0.425 mm to 0.850 mm are synthesized via suspension polymerization process.Impacts of reaction temperature and time,stirring speed,the type and amount of dispersant,water-oil ratio on the particle size of the microspheres are studied.The optimal polymerization process is determined as follows:the temperature increases stepwise and stays at low temperature range for longer time,stirring speed is in the range of 110-130 r·min-1,mass fraction of polyvinyl alcohol (main dispersant) is 0.076%,the mass fraction of tricalcium phosphate (auxiliary dispersant) is 0.053%,and water-oil ratio is (2-2.6):1.
