Abstract: Artificial aging treatment is conducted to change the distribution of the second phase in ZK60 magnesium alloy, which can therefore influence the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of the material.Artificial aging treatment is proved to have ability to enhance the mechanical properties of ZK60 and improve the fatigue life in the air. However, artificial aging treatment does not homogenize the distribution of the second phase in materials, which results in a reduction of corrosion resistance of ZK60.It is found that the specimens after artificial aging treatment possess a higher corrosion fatigue life than virgin specimens under high stress amplitudes, and the results are reversed under low stress amplitudes.Micro cracks induced by stress concentration appears at the bottom of pitting on the surface of specimens after artificial aging treatment, which can decrease their corrosion fatigue resistance under low stress amplitudes.
