Abstract: Nitrogen-doped activated carbon supports are prepared by high temperature pyrolysis method, and then transition metal Ir is uniformly immobilized on the supports by in-situ reduction method. Finally, the nitrogen-doped activated carbon-supported Ir catalyst (Ir-N@C) is prepared by the oxidation treatment,in which Ir metal particles have small size and are dispersed uniformly on the supports. The prepared Ir-N@C heterogeneous catalyst shows certain activity and higher selectivity in the preparation of straight chain alcohol (n-heptanol) from ethanol and n-pentanol.The mass ratio of straight chain alcohol (n-heptanol) to branched alcohol (2-ethyl-pentanol) among cross-condensation products can reach 6.0:1.0 and the single-pass conversion of ethanol can reach 45.9% after optimizing catalyst preparation and reaction condition. In recycling experiments,Ir-N@C catalyst shows good stability and recycling performance.
