Abstract: Effects of dihydromyricetin (DMY),extracted from ampelopsis grossedentata,on the antioxidantive properties of polypropylene (PP) are evaluated by investigating the differences of DMY-containing PP's mechanical properties and melt flowability in natural weathering tests and oven aging tests. The DMY-containing PP is compared with the PP sample containing a synthetic antioxidant (Irganox B215).The results show that both the reduction of mechanical properties and the increment of melt flowability of DMY-containing PP are slower than that of blank PP sample during the aging process, implying that DMY is a high efficient antioxidant for PP.On the other hand,in natural weathering tests, the PP samples containing Irganox B215 exhibits higher stability than the PP samples containing DMY during 105 days;however, the antioxidant effectiveness of DMY lasts longer than that of Irganox B215.The oven aging tests give different results that Irganox B215 shows better antioxidation effect than DMY.In a sum,DMY is a good natural antioxidant with features of not-toxicity,high efficiency, good stability and rich in resource.
